MCOC Alliance War Diversity Tool - Plan Unique Defenders and Stop Losing Free Points
Hello everyone this is CaptainRaghu and Wecome to MCOC GUIDE BLOG.
If you have ever lost an Alliance War by a few hundred points, there is a good chance defender diversity was the reason. Not skill. Not roster depth. Just two players quietly placing the same champion in the same battlegroup, and nobody catching it before the attack phase locked in.
I have been running wars since 2016, and I built this free MCOC Alliance War diversity tool because I got tired of doing the same audit in a Google Sheet every single placement phase. Type in your battlegroup placements, and the tool instantly flags duplicates, counts your unique defenders, and grades your setup before the war even starts. No login, no download, and nothing leaves your phone.

Duplicate = same champion placed twice in the SAME battlegroup (any rarity). Same champ in different BGs is fine. Data auto-saves on your device.

What Is Defender Diversity in MCOC Alliance War?
Defender diversity is a scoring category in Alliance War that rewards your alliance for placing unique champions on defense. Every unique defender placed in a battlegroup earns your alliance diversity points. Place the same champion twice in one battlegroup and the second copy earns nothing. It still sits on a node, it still fights, but from a scoring point of view it is dead weight.
Two rules trip up even experienced officers, so let me spell them out clearly.
Rule 1: Diversity is counted per battlegroup, not across the alliance. Each battlegroup is scored as if the other two do not exist. So if your BG1 places Domino and your BG2 also places Domino, both count as unique and both earn full points. Duplication only hurts when it happens inside the same battlegroup.
Rule 2: Rarity does not matter. A 6-star Serpent and a 7-star Serpent are the same champion in the eyes of diversity scoring. Different star levels do not make a defender unique, so two players cannot "share" a meta defender in one battlegroup just because their rarities differ.
How Does the MCOC AW Diversity Tool Work?
The tool mirrors exactly how the game scores diversity, so what you see here is what you get in war.
First, pick how many battlegroups your alliance is running. Small alliance with 15 members running a single BG? Select 1 Battlegroup and the tool scales everything to 50 slots. Full 30-member alliance? Select 3 Battlegroups and you get the complete 150-slot board.
Then enter each player's name and their five defenders. The champion field has autocomplete, so typing "dom" will suggest Domino and Doctor Doom - no spelling headaches. The moment two identical champions land in the same battlegroup, both slots turn red with a note showing who placed the other copy. Champions that are safe stay teal.
At the top, a live score ring tracks your unique defender count, and a grade badge (S, A, B, or C) tells you at a glance how clean your placement is. There is also a one-tap Duplicate Report that lists every conflict in one place - handy when you are checking 150 slots on a phone during a busy placement window. When you are done, hit Download Share Card and drop the summary image straight into your alliance chat or Discord.
Everything saves automatically in your browser, so you can close the tab mid-planning and pick up where you left off. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Why Diversity Points Decide Close Wars
Here is the math that most alliances ignore. Exploration and boss kills are usually equal between two well-matched alliances - everyone finishes the map. Attack bonus separates good pilots from great ones, but diversity is pure free points that require zero fighting skill. An alliance that places clean, fully diverse defense starts the war with a points cushion the opponent has to bleed items to overcome.
In my experience running wars across multiple seasons, the alliances that consistently win tie-breaker-level matches are not the ones with the flashiest rosters. They are the ones where an officer does a diversity audit before the placement phase ends. This tool turns that 20-minute spreadsheet audit into a 2-minute check.
How to Plan Diversity Like an Officer (My 3-Step Method)
Step 1 - Collect placements before anyone touches the map. Ask every member to send their five intended defenders in chat. Enter them in the tool as they come in. Fixing a duplicate in a chat message costs nothing; fixing it after champions are locked costs the war.
Step 2 - Resolve duplicates by roster depth, not rank. When two players want to place the same champion in one BG, the player with the deeper roster swaps. A weaker unique defender almost always out-earns a stronger duplicate, because the duplicate scores zero diversity.
Step 3 - Screenshot and share. Download the share card and pin it in your alliance chat. When placement opens, everyone places exactly what was agreed. No surprises, no "sorry bro, I forgot".
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the same champion in different battlegroups count as a duplicate?
No. Diversity is calculated separately for each battlegroup. Domino in BG1 and Domino in BG2 both earn full diversity points. Only a repeat within the same battlegroup is a duplicate.
Do different star levels of the same champion count as unique defenders?
No. A 5-star, 6-star, and 7-star version of the same champion all count as one champion for diversity. Rarity and rank make no difference to the scoring.
Is this MCOC diversity tool free?
Yes, completely free. It runs entirely in your browser, works on mobile, and does not ask for any login or game account details.
Does my alliance data get uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is stored locally on your own device using your browser's storage. Clear your browser data and it is gone. Nothing is ever sent to a server.
Can I use this tool for a small alliance running only one battlegroup?
Yes. Use the "Create Diversity plan for" dropdown and select 1 Battlegroup. The tool scales down to 50 slots and grades your diversity for a single BG.
How many unique defenders can an alliance place?
A full 3-battlegroup war has 150 defender slots (30 players, 5 defenders each). Since each battlegroup is scored on its own 50 slots, a perfectly diverse alliance needs 50 unique champions per battlegroup - and the same 50 can repeat across the other two BGs without penalty.
Final Word from CaptainRaghu
Diversity is the cheapest points in Alliance War. It does not need a god-tier roster, it does not need perfect fights, it just needs five minutes of planning before placement. Use the tool above every war, share the card with your battlegroup, and stop gifting free points to your opponent. If you find a champion missing from the autocomplete or want a feature added, drop a comment below - I read all of them.
