MCOC Champions By Release Year (2015-2026)
This tool is created By - CaptainRaghu (In Game ID) - 10+ Years of Gameplay Experience.
How MCOC's Champion Roster Has Grown Since 2015
MCOC launched in December 2014 with a small starting roster, and by the end of 2015 that number had already jumped to 59 champions. That first year is still the biggest single-year jump in the game's history, mostly because Kabam was filling out the early roster and adding champions in quick succession right after launch.
After 2015, the pace settled into a steady rhythm. Most years since then have added somewhere between 24 and 28 new champions, roughly two releases a month. That pattern has held for a decade now, which says a lot about how consistent Kabam has been with new content.
2024 and 2025 saw a small bump thanks to Deathless champions, new Eidols like Isophyne and Lumatrix, and a wave of Stellar-Forged variants, all counted in the year they actually released. 2026 is still filling up as the year goes on, so expect that number to keep growing through December.
Why Champion Release Year Matters in MCOC
Release year is not just trivia. A few real parts of the game connect to it, past and present:
Old Rank Up Gems still sitting in your inventory. Kabam removed Back Issues, also known as Variant 1 through 8, from the game on April 8, 2026. Until then, these permanent quests were the main source of Rank Up Gems that could only be spent on champions from one specific release year. If you already earned one of these gems before the removal and never used it, this page is still the fastest way to find every champion that gem can be spent on.
Roster planning. If you are chasing a certain Class for Alliance War or Battlegrounds, seeing every champion from that Class laid out by year makes it easy to spot who you are still missing.
Anniversary and nostalgia events. Kabam sometimes runs events tied to specific release years, so knowing your 2015 or 2016 champions can matter more than you would expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many champions are in MCOC in total?
As of 2026, MCOC has 326 standard playable champions released between December 2014 and today. This does not count temporary variant champions like Doombot or Symbioid, which come in six Class versions each and are not standalone champions.
Which year had the most MCOC champion releases?
2015 had the most, with 59 champions. That is because the first year of the game included both the December 2014 launch roster and a fast stream of new additions to fill out the early game.
What are the six Classes in MCOC?
The six Classes are Mutant, Skill, Science, Mystic, Cosmic, and Tech. Every champion belongs to one of these, and each Class has a strength against one Class and a weakness against another.
Did Kabam remove Variant Quests from MCOC?
Yes. Kabam removed Back Issues, also known as Variant 1 through 8, from Marvel Contest of Champions on April 8, 2026. These were the permanent quests that rewarded Rank Up Gems tied to a champion's release year.
Can I still use my old Variant Rank Up Gems?
Yes, if you earned one before the April 2026 removal and never spent it, the gem still works the same way. Open that gem's target year in the tool above and you will see every eligible champion, sorted by Class.
Do Deathless and Stellar-Forged champions count as new champions?
Yes. Deathless and Stellar-Forged versions are counted in the year they were released as that specific variant, and they keep the same Class as their original version.
How often is this page updated?
This list is updated every month, usually within a few days of a new champion joining the Contest.
